Network Security Job Description
Security specialists evaluate a system's vulnerability, and make recommendations to increase the security of a company's computer systems. They may also be called upon to:
- Establish disaster recovery strategies
- Develop new antivirus software to keep hackers out and systems virus-free
- Monitor the network for security breaches
- Get the system up and running, and recover information after a breach in the system
- Gather data and evidence to be used in prosecuting cyber crime
With additional education and work experience, a career in information systems security can lead to a technology management position, even up to Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of a company.
Network Security Education and Training
Strong technical knowledge is essential for network security specialists. A degree in computer science or engineering plus computer networking training and protocol system product testing are necessary. Experience in all areas of telecommunications/data communications and familiarity with scripting languages such as TCL, PERL and HP are optimal. TCP/IP experience is helpful.
