Bachelor of Science in Information TechnologyBack to topThe objective of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program is to prepare students for career advancement in information technology with the knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking, creative skills, and technical competencies required in today's workplaces. Throughout this program, students will learn to apply system and technical solutions and analysis to hardware and software problems. You will be required to complete an externship prior to receiving your bachelor's degree from Kaplan College. Associate of Applied Science in Computer ApplicationsBack to topThe objective of the computer applications program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required for an entry-level position in the computer applications field. The curriculum provides students with the retention of information, the updating of information and the summarizing of these data, as well as a familiarization with, and productive use of, computing software. Spreadsheet, database and word processing classes, along with oral and written communications, provide the coursework to achieve this goal. Students are required to participate in an externship program in which they apply classroom knowledge in an actual work environment. Graduates of this program may use word processing, database and spreadsheets to solve various business problems; develop facility with disk operating commands; disassemble the CPU and identify the several major elements and their functions; and exhibit the ability to adapt to new computing technology and be constantly "upskilling." Graduates may import and export documents from one application to another and use function keys on a microcomputer from specific software as well as system commands. Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of business organization concepts and principles and the attitudes and interpersonal skills acceptable in business. The computer forensics program is designed to provide students with skills in the area of criminology, data recovery, computer operating systems, network security, encryption, cybercrime investigation, the collection and analysis of computer based evidence, ensuring the integrity of the chain of evidence and preparing evidence for presentation in a court of law. Students will gain experience with professional investigative software and evidence gathering in the computer lab. Students must pass a criminal background check prior to the start of classes. Graduates of this program will be qualified to obtain employment locally and nationally as a security coordinator, investigator, computer forensics specialist, intrusion detection analyst, network security analyst, security specialist, etc. The length of the program is 7 quarters over a period of 21 months. Students must complete the program with a minimum of 103.5 quarter credit hours. Associate of Applied Science in Network Systems TechnologyBack to topThe objective of the network systems technology program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in the field. The curriculum will provide students with the in-depth knowledge required to plan, implement, maintain, and support information systems in a range of computing and networking environments. Students will learn networking configurations and various operating systems. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded an associate of applied science in information technology degree. Graduates of this program may be responsible for the security and administration of networks, and the designing and implementing of the systems that keep networks functioning. Duties may include planning and installing the hardware and software that comprise the network; adding and deleting files to the network server; maintaining printers and other peripherals connected to the network; troubleshooting problems; and developing, implementing, and testing off-site systems that will continue to work in the event of on-site emergencies. The length of the network systems technology program is eight quarters culminating in 103.5 quarter credit hours. Associate of Applied Science in Graphic DesignBack to topThe objective of the graphic design program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for entry-level positions as graphic designers and illustrators, layout artists, production artists, and multi-media artists. Students will be encouraged to develop creativity while stressing technical and presentation skills. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded an associate of applied science degree. Graduates of this program may design advertising campaigns, logos, packaging posters, publications, etc. from the concept to the final printing process for magazines, newspapers, journals, and other publications. Graduates may also create graphics for television and computer- generated media. The length of the graphic design program is eight quarters culminating in 105 quarter credit hours.
