What's the job outlook?

According to industry analysts, network security is one of the fastest growing fields in information technology, due to the increase in network vulnerability and security threats. Data theft and other unauthorized access to computer systems and websites can be enormously detrimental to a company's success. Executives from all types of companies are reporting that information technology specialists with security expertise are highly valued, because safeguarding systems is a mission critical role.

What will I do with my education?

Graduates of Heald's network security program pursue rewarding careers in a variety of positions, including information security specialist, database security specialist, web application security specialist, LAN administrator, junior network administrator and technical support specialist. You'll also be well-prepared to pursue the following technical certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Linux+, Security+, Microsoft® Certified Professional and Microsoft® Certified Desktop Support Technician.

As a network security specialist, you'll be considered an expert in encryption, authentication and client and server security. You'll likely be responsible for configuring firewalls, recovering and backing up critical business data, and using intrusion detection techniques to detect hacking activities. Cisco® routers and switches are the products most widely used to send information from one network to another. As the demand for networked computer systems grows, so does the demand for CCNA®s and CCNP®s, who understand how to configure, maintain and support Cisco® routers and switches.

What will I do with my education?

Graduates of Heald's Cisco® Systems Administration program pursue CCNA® certification, and then assume a variety of positions, including help desk technician, field technician, network technician and customer service technician. Graduates of our advanced Cisco® Systems administration program pursue CCNP® certification, and then, assume rewarding careers in a variety of positions, including network administrator, Level II Support Engineer, Level II Systems Engineer, network engineer or deployment engineer.

Heald's Microsoft® Windows® 2003 Systems Administration program will help you prepare to become certified as a Microsoft® Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE®). Graduates of this program pursue rewarding careers in a variety of positions, including network administrator, network engineer, customer service technician and LAN administrator. Networking professionals are typically responsible for implementing plans for computer operations and data processing, and for solving problems in these areas. They also coordinate the implementation of computer software and systems design.
